Jiangnan University Affiliated Hospital

The design concept for this project centers around 3 main concepts, “One ring, two axes, and three islands”. The “One Ring” refers to the functional ring, which is a transportation loop established in this case to coordinate the main medical functions under unfavorable site factors. The “two axes” refer to the development axis of the hospital area and the medical function axis, which provide direction for the future development of the hospital area and provide a basis for the rational and orderly development of medical functions. The “Three Islands” refer to three functional center islands, namely the main medical center island, the tumor center island, and the teaching and research center island.

The design technique of “one ring, two axes, three islands” embodies the design concept of “people-oriented” design using subtle details. By carefully organizing and designing the flow of people, logistics, vehicles, and information in the hospital, a high-quality medical building environment is created. The focus is on designing natural ventilation and lighting systems to create a beautiful, warm, comfortable, energy-saving, and environmentally friendly medical environment.

From the overall functional combination of the building group to the integration of functional flow between each function, we propose to build a medical campus with strong integrity and open interfaces to strengthen the correlation and spatial independence of the building. At the same time, complex functions will be centralized and public spaces will be centered, tightly organizing various functional blocks with the core public space to form a rational and clear master plan.
