MB110 | Bierbrunnen
From the faceless city to an urban center

Liefering’s once-rural landscape has transformed into a faceless commercial hub along Munich Federal Highway. Lacking cohesive design, the area required intervention. Enter the MB110 | Beer Fountain project, aimed at providing structure to this urban void.

Situated between the ‘Salzburg-Mitte’ highway exit and the German border, historically known as ‘Lieferinger Spitz’, the site intersects Munich Federal Highway, Forellenweg, and Lieferinger Hauptstraße. Facing heavy traffic congestion, the state of Salzburg expanded the road, necessitating demolition of two existing buildings.

The new L-shaped building strategically shields residences from noise and emissions while enhancing the neighborhood. Its design interacts with the commercial area, main road, and nearby housing development. Cantilevers towards the highway define the urban fabric, creating a landmark square.

A covered pedestrian and cycle path enhances street appeal and mobility options. The building houses offices, commercial spaces, and apartments, promoting sustainable transportation. Green spaces, including vertical gardens and rooftop terraces, mitigate heat islands and offer panoramic views.

Overall, the MB110 | Bierbrunnen project transforms a faceless urban landscape into a vibrant, sustainable community hub.
